Privacy Policy
This policy explains how CampaMate (“we”, “us”) handles personal information when you use the CampaMate website and related services. It is written in plain English for early access and private beta. It is not formal legal advice.
Who we are
CampaMate is a UK-focused road-trip companion for finding campsites, facilities and routes. For privacy questions, contact us at enquiries.campamate@gmail.com.
Information we collect
- Account details — email address and password (passwords are handled by our auth provider; we do not store them in plain text).
- Membership and payment details — billing is processed by Stripe. We receive confirmation of subscription status and customer identifiers; we do not store full card numbers on CampaMate servers. Apple Pay / Google Pay may be offered where your device supports them.
- Saved content — favourites, saved routes and similar account data you choose to keep with CampaMate.
- Messages you send us — feedback, place suggestions, Photo of the Month entries and support emails, including any name, contact details or photos you include.
- Technical data — basic logs needed to run the service securely (for example, approximate request timing and error information). We do not sell advertising profiles.
How we use it
- Create and manage your account
- Provide free campsite browsing and, for members, paid features
- Save and show your favourites and routes
- Respond to feedback, submissions and support requests
- Improve reliability, security and product quality
- Meet legal obligations where they apply
Legal bases (UK GDPR)
Where UK data protection law applies, we typically rely on:
- Contract — to provide the account and membership services you ask for
- Legitimate interests — to run, secure and improve CampaMate in ways that do not override your rights
- Consent — where you choose to send us optional content (for example Photo of the Month entries)
- Legal obligation — where we must keep or disclose information by law
Cookies and similar technology
CampaMate uses essential cookies / local storage needed for sign-in sessions and basic site function. We do not currently run advertising or third-party analytics cookies that would require a marketing cookie banner. If that changes, we will update this policy and add a clearer notice before those cookies are used.
Map and place data
Map and place information may come from OpenStreetMap and other community or partner sources. That data is about places, not about you personally. Community-listed places are labelled as such and should be checked before travel.
Who we share information with
We share personal information only as needed to run CampaMate, for example:
- Hosting and authentication providers (currently including Supabase / Vercel infrastructure)
- Payment providers when membership checkout is enabled
- Form or email tools used to receive Photo of the Month or enquiry messages
- Professional advisers or authorities if required by law
We do not sell your personal information.
How long we keep it
We keep account and membership records while your account is active and for a reasonable period afterwards if needed for security, disputes or legal requirements. Feedback and photo entries are kept only as long as useful for review and publication decisions.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you may have rights to access, correct, delete or restrict use of your personal information, and to object to certain processing. To exercise these rights, email enquiries.campamate@gmail.com. You can also complain to the UK Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) if you are unhappy with how we handle your data.
Children
CampaMate is aimed at adults planning travel. It is not intended for children under 16. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes
We may update this policy as CampaMate grows (for example when payments or the mobile apps open more widely). The “Last updated” date at the top will change when we do.
